Personal or business transformation depend on similar principles. Learn how one framework used by a top performance coach brings to mind Dr. Deming’s teachings.

I was bemused listening to a personal growth podcast to see Dr. Deming’s teachings just as applicable as if it was leadership and business transformation

Brendon Burchard is a phenomenal coach on many levels.

Recently, I subscribed to one of his podcasts, ‘Motivation with Brendon Burchard’. One episode described a framework that had me seeing much in common with Dr. Deming’s teachings.

Deming talked about transformation, be it of management, leadership or business, and stated it starts with the individual. That sounds like personal development or growth, much like Brendon Burchard’s realm.

Outcome
Model
Rhythm
People
Growth

Outcome
What are the outcomes to be achieved? In Quality, we would refer to target condition.

Model
How will the outcome be achieved? What model, framework or approach will let us achieve this outcome?

Rhythm
Describes the routines or processes that will propel the model.

People
Whether individual or team outcome, people are key.

Growth
How do we demonstrate the growth, the progress towards our outcome or target condition?

How does this relate to Dr. Deming?
Dr. Deming would ask “By what method?” to achieve the desired outcome. We all need to be clear how we will progress towards a target condition. Leadership should ensure the resources are available. Leadership should provide the clear definitions so we know what the outcome is, how we measure it.

Operational Definitions provide Clarity
Much of this comes back to the critical point of Operational Definitions, something Dr. Deming would regard as essential to be clear on what we are trying to achieve.

Brendon Burchard talks about the OMR parts of this framework as creating the clarity for People to then work towards the outcome, using the correct metrics to demonstrate the growth towards the outcome.
